So I guy I know sent this in chain e-mail on Survival methods I thought he had some good points.

Breathe! - Fear restricts breath. Practice breathing during your training, and in situations that cause you apprehension and fear. Be mindful of your breathing when you're feeling nervous and take control of it.

Move! - TOWARD and INTO the Attacker! It's the opposite of freezing up or retracting, and it's the only place you can effectively harm him with a counter-attack. Press forward no matter what!

Focus! - Focus Determines Behavior. If you focus on not getting hurt, you're going to get hurt. That's why guys who curl up in a ball on the ground get stomped on. Focus on HURTING your attacker, and you increase the odds of defeating him no matter how big and strong he may be.

I completely agree. I've got ten years law enforcement experience and focusing on breathing has helped me through more stressful situations than I care to remember. Lack of oxygen causes numerous ill effects that limit your effectiveness in a combat or high stress scenario. Breathe deep and survive.
