Back in the day in Leo's basement.... If someone had a question about a technique Leo would get up and show you how to execute it. it would usually leave no doubt in your mind of the effectiveness of the technique. Sometimes after practice some of the senior graduates/instructors who would hang out in the basement after Leo would leave.. would be working on techniques from the class or other things they may have learned elsewhere. Of course arguments would arise on wether it would work at full speed under pressure. Who come to mind are Guros Dave Paer & Rot Atay...if they disagreed one of them would say " Lets put on the pads and see" so they would pad up and the argument would be settled after a few skimishes.
This would happen many times back in the day... it was their way to test theories, concepts and techniques. It is still the way that Bahalanamulti-style comfirms anything may have a question on.
i bring this up because i spoke to a graduate/certified guro last night. who was assiting a master in a seminar in Spain. He questioned the master of his system... why every time he does a certain technique that he gets hurt.
The master than shows him again.. in slow motion how to execute the technique. Of course it works. The guro than does it at full speed and the master is unable to perform the technique under pressure...in short the master got upset and did not work out with the guro for the rest of the seminar and talked bad about the guro to the other participants.
if this was in the basement back in the day..... they would have just put the pads on and lets see.
Complete agreement w/ you Henry. I want to see it too!
But as for the person who's conducted this research (and will be conducting more in the Philippines w/ invited Grandmasters to participate), his FMA/MA career is actually going very strong.
Here's link to the thread on FB:

Interesting to note, one comment by Roderick Echivarre Maranga...
" i remeber when i was of age 7_grandF- Timor (GM Timoteo Maranga) once said to me,,,, do not apply that payong, your fist will be the target.
we typically just see it as a moment in time on the way to a strike and don't attempt to make it a barrier to stop.....to much chance for error. The body can only move so many different ways so in my mind what seperates the vearious systems are the concepts each is applied with and the perception of the person applying them
Henry...pls PM me.
btw...I'm not saying it doesn't work. How can I deny it doesn't? I'm a Serrada player as some of you who are commenting on the thread. It's part of the curriculum, right? As for the FWARS thread on FB, I'm just the messenger. And the person conducting the continued research in the Philippines has invited any and all FMA players to participate to discern whether or not it works. Nothing beats first hand experience, right?
Since he doesn't have a profile on this site (he will create one soon to join in on the conversation), he asked that I post this for him...
"the experiment in russia is not only me hitting the spetz. they also tested it to me so they can see what i can do about it. the spetz are not stupid people to just accept any theory, they want to see it. come and participate in my test in UP (University of Philippines). give them the info that they are invited." - Daniel "Mumbakki" Foronda - Officer - The Alliance Of The Philippine Combat Arts In The Russian Federation.
Thanks for the info Sonny. I am always available to demonstrate the effectiveness of FMA, but like many of our FMA forefathers I do so without pads and with live weapons. Without those two aspects, any testing is not truly real.
I welcome Mr. Foronda's joining so that we can gain a better understanding of his approach, methodologies , and what precisely he is testing. Also, is this the same gentleman mentioned in the thread found here: (link removed by Mr. Malmo)
I look forward to his input.
It is. You can infer what you want from it but he's a standup guy. I'm not here to slander anyone though there are some who's own insecurities made them go after him. If the Spetsnaz can trust him, as well as other GM's in the Philippines (i.e. GM Yuli Romo, GM Nick Elizar, GM Jun De Leon to name a few) and knowing him myself, their support speaks volumes for him. The same cannot be said of the egos who started that thread. All the GM's of Cebu can attest to the myths and lies of the group's founder and its origins.
As for the testing in the Philippines, while pads and other protective gear is encouraged for others to bring, Mumbakki is the guy who will grant your request of no pads and live weapons for to satisfy your requirements.
*sorry having a chuckle here* the live weapon stuff is very cute chest puffing.......GM Latosa said he saw a GM type in the Phillipines that had to wear leather forarm wraps and had issue with his hands. In other words the same thing can be done with a magic marker and a brain........lol
