Jamie Lagang
In the early 1980s, Jamie Lagang was exposed to the art of escrima by GM Regino Illustrisimo. His parents would often bring him when visiting GM Regino and his wife, who were close friends of the family. GM Regino would take him aside and show some basic techniques and encouraged him to learn the art. This sparked his interest.
In 1983, Jamie was introduced to the Largo Mano style of GM Leo Giron by his cousin Guro David Paler. GM Leo and Jamie's dad were close friends and they would often talk about Jamie's progress in the art. Jamie saw that this made his father proud, so he continued to learn and with the help of fellow instructors, advanced and graduate students, Jamie graduated with Bahala Na Club #1 in May of 1989 under Grandmaster Leo Giron.
Throughout his early years in the art, Jamie had fought in various tournaments under WEKAF and ESKOA exposing him to various fighting styles. In October of 2011, he received his instructor certification with Bahala Na Multi-style under Maestro Dexter Labonog.
Jamie often helps teach at the Sacramento Bahala Na Multi-style school headed by Maestro Dexter Labonog and on occasion at the Stockton Bahala Na Multi-style school headed by Chief Instructor June Gotico.
He plans to open a school of his own in Fairfield, California. Jamie continues to participate in club demonstrations to expose and share the Filipino martial art to various communities.
