Sorry this has taken so long to get out to you guys. Write, rewrite, delete, start over, write again. Trying to stay on task with this article was so difficult given there was soooo much to the weekend. If you can’t find the previous articles I’ve tried to write on this blog, it is because I took them down. Here is the final, completed copy.

Tim Tackett’s Secret Moves Caught on Tape

During the JKD Summit Seminar held last March 30 to April 1st, we had the privilege of having Tim Tackett around. He tried to squeeze in all that he knew and loved about JKD in just about two and a half house. As the seminar’s most senior instructor, Tim shared the following:

-          The secret of trapping immobilization

-          How to use the high point trap

-          Leg destructions in detail

-          The “striking downward lop…

Tim Tacket Bares All In Audio Interview

In Social Psychology there is a person who is known as a “Connector”. Obviously, Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto would be known as connectors, or those who seem to know everyone. During my interview with Tim Tackett, I realized I was talking to another connector. This is a man who seems to know a lot of people in the JKD world. This was not name dropping, but specific people he learned from, taught, and highlighted as practitioners and fellow colleagues. His personal stories and experience blew me… Continue

Richard Bustillo Shares Knowledge In An Exclusive Interview

When you interview a “first generation” JKD instructor, you get to peek into history, and see things from a perspective you rarely get to see. When interviewing Richard Bustillo, I was amazed on the ease of the interview, even though I was a bit nervous.

Richard was very open to my questions, and gave very full answers. When I listened back on the interview, I think the one thing which struck me the most was how one endeavor lead to another. This was very apparent when he talked about…

Patrick Strong Wows Listeners

Wow. Just wow. The interview started out with some great background on the early-early days of Bruce Lee teaching and being introduced to the world. About nine minutes into the interview, my mind was swimming in information. I found myself continuing to tell myself, “focus, focus”, because every sentence Patrick Strong was saying contained so much information it was overwhelming.

Luckily I reminded myself that the interview was being recorded, and I would be listening to it several…

I think it is easy for us sometimes to look at a “successful” person, and point to luck as the main contributor to their achievement. Burton definitely had an up on many of his contemporaries by starting his training at the Kali Academy at such a young age. Read the full article from this site:…

Not your ordinary training...From Ron Saturno

Master Ron Saturno

When my wife and I had broken up I was bout 28 years old. I was unemployed and things were getting really tight. My father said one day that someone was looking for help fixing their house in San Jose, Ca. San Jose was about 70 miles from Stockton, where I lived. A lot of people may not know about the unofficial coconut highway. Filipinos will mention to another Filipino that they needed or wanted something and some way and some how the information can…

My Resignation from the Mataw Guro Association

Hello to All,
I am posting my letter of resignation from the Mataw Guro Association, which I have been associated with for a number of years.  I have in the past posted notices about the MGA and their activities and I believe that I should be open with the members of this site who have shared information, ideas and suggestions with me.  It is my belief that the resignation letter is quite clear as to why I resigned from both the MGA Board of Directors…

Not Training

In all my years of involvement in the arts, I've always been told to continuously train and practice. However, there were times I was unable to physically train and practice. I did the best I could to stay physically fit, but did not practice my art. Sometimes this was by choice, and other times it was due to surgery, or injury. When I did make it back on to the training floor I felt a little better at execution of my art, than before. I've often thought it was due to the "vacation" from…

Things started a number of years ago because of introduction by Darren Tibon to gentleman named Val Mijailovic. Val is the publisher of Masters Magazine and owner of Empire Media.
