how far will you help a person from another school?

What I love about the FMA Community is the people are generally friendly. Over time you develop strong bonds with these people and look forward to seeing them in other tournaments throughout the years. But no matter how "friendly" you get, it's still a competition.

So I ask you, if another school were to ask you to help them become better competitors? Would you help? And if so how much? And would you do it for free?

Firearms Refresher Course

Passing this along -

1. "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."~Thomas Jefferson

2. "Those who trade liberty for security have neither." ~ John Adams

3. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.

4. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

5. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

6. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.… Continue

Kuntao Dumpag for women was on a TV show called Connecticut Lifestyles, WTNH channel 8

For many years I have been doing Rape and Mugging prevention seminars all over the place. I do them in High Schools, Colleges, womens organizations, corporations, etc. What I show them is an abridged version of Kuntao Dumpag. Due to the vicious content of such a style they seem to like what I show them. Its the way an animal in the wild would actually fight off a predator so it makes sense to the woemn, and the men who do my seminars or my classes. Its quite an unusual fighting…

Seeking Truth

Life's lessons take manyshapes and forms, and truth is revealed in ways that are at times beautifully poetic, and at times painfully direct. No matter what form it takes, however, once recognized truth is undeniable. A martial artist is ultimately a seeker of truth, beginning with explorations and experimentations on technique -- what works, what doesn't what is proper, what… Continue

Still Alive

Suffering a steep setback in my FMA training thanks to our landlord deciding he wants to give us the boot so he may sell the property. He wants it empty, so we are in the process of relocating into another place. The move must be complete before March 30th, so once I've got everything moved and get the computers set back up, having gotten all settled in, I can again pick up where I left off here on MyFMA as well as training with GM Shelley in Ft. Collins.

Sometimes when…

My Fighting Style is the Best. No Need to Train Other Styles...

Is there anything wrong with knowing one style? After all, everyone is involved in martial arts for various reasons, and not everyone's reason is to defeat the other guys style. Martial arts were really created to give the "weaker person" an edge for self defense purposes for the most part. Then again, pride in one style being the best is a very common belief, especially for many martial art old timers. They say you should be able to do one…

Boxing/karate verses Arnis a life lesson in kids class

Last night was my kid's, we had an interesting thing happen, one of my newer students (Age 6 and traing for two months) decide when it was his time to spar that he would throw down his stick and fight with his hands and feet. He had been in a kids karate and boxing class. He chose to do this against a another kid age 5 who had been with me since age 3.5 and in the last year had fought in 2 tournaments. This boys father was there. I told him (the 6 y/o) that he should not do this. His mother was… Continue
