Saturno Modern Serrada

Dedicated to the the advancement of Serrada Escrima of the late great Manong Cabales

Location: Stockton, Ca.
Members: 47
Latest Activity: Aug 28, 2017

Dedicated to the art of Serrada Escrima made famous by the late great GM Angel Cabales, the first to open a Filipino Martial Arts (Escrima) School in Stockton,CA. in the 60's. I teach primarily the old fashion Serrada Escrima and teach all of the basics thru lock and block, sparring, picking, etc., but do not start the weapons for at least a couple of years. My training methods now encompass healing, locking, throwing, punching, etc. via drills. I think I am sufficiently different to warrant the term...modern. There is nothig wrong with the classical Serrada approach of training. I just get bored now and will at times start students on new paths to better themselves and keep it interesting.Contact me at 209 662 1921. GM Ron Saturno / Saturno Modern Serrada.

This is the creed !

“An Escrimador(a) must have the wisdom and discretion to know when to use his/her art. When forced to use it, he/she must show humanity against aggressors who cannot defend against it and the humbleness not to boast about the power he/she holds. In doing so, he/she will gain harmony both with his/her art and with his/her life.”

Wisdom: understanding of what is true, right, or lasting.

Humanity: humane quality, kindness, mercy.

Humbleness: deeply respectful.

Harmony: a pleasing combination of parts or elements.

Hey Ron I'm so glad that you got this group. What Brad said is true when you explain esKrima, it is easy to understand what we are learning. I have to concur with GM D that you do have much to share with us all. Mahalo & Aloha ,tasi

Greetings Master Saturno,
What makes me happy about all of GGM Angel Cabales' graduate instructors, old & young alike, is that they all have something valuable to offer in regards to how they each approach the art of 'Cabales Serrada Escrima'. I've personally known Master Ron Saturno since co-demonstrating our distinctive approaches of FMA at a GM Max Pallen tournament back in the late 80's. This particular tournament visually represented a merger between GGM Angel Cabales & my FMA association. GGM Angel Cabales himself was a 'grand old' innovator when it came to perfecting his art. GGM Angel Cabales once told me that he could not do escrima exactly like his teacher SGGM Felicisimo Dizon, so he had to innovate & make a few adjustments to his art in order to make it more applicable to American escrima aspirants. A good example of this, is the construction of the various rank levels within the art of Serrada Escrima. Back in the Philippines where Cabales first learned escrima, there were no rank levels. You knew how advanced you had become, or not become, by egaging in actual stick & knife matches. Master Ron Saturno is one of GGM Angel Cabales' "Best of the Best" master graduate students, and if I know Ronnie Saturno, "the best is yet to come". Good show Brother Ron in officially lauching " Saturno Modern Serrada"... I greatly applaud you.

"Take Great Care & Full Speed Ahead"
Highest Regards!
