Recently I changed gyms to the UFC gym in Torrance. I have to say really nice place, first class equipment and training facility! Back to the matter at hand, I have been working out with a number of boxers and other stick fighters and recently a Koren fellow came in with his Boken and was working out in a ring we sharing. I asked him if he was up for some play, he said yes and he was an instructor in his art. We did full speed light contact with no gear.  He was very quick and agile which required me to use double sticks to control all of his strikes, thrusts and counter attacks. I found that my footwork & time with the double stick allowed me to hold my own. I was only about to get him twice once on the hand and once on the shin. I did not get hit once in the space of 30 minutes of play. I was studying him and he was of me as well. He had previously trained in stick fighting and I had trained in Korean Sword so both knew a bit about each other methods. We agreed to do this again with helmet & gloves, he with a Shenni and I with sparring sticks. Anybody else try this?
