Instructor Jay Paular bio
Jay’s interests in Filipino martial arts began in the early 1970’s when he observed a demo in Sacramento by a group trained by Master Glenn Abrescy Sr. A few years later, Jay discovered that his father’s cousin, Guro Dan Inosanto, had become a noted martial artist and appeared in The Game of Death with Bruce Lee. In 1974, Jay was visiting the backyard studio of Guro Dan Inosanto; where he had his first exposure to some of the early masters, including Angel Caballes, Ted Lucaylucay, and Dentoy Revellar. Soon after, Master Dentoy opened a school in Sacramento where Jay learned some basics of the Serrada escrima system. Around 1977, Jay met Maestro Dexter Labanog and trained briefly. In 2000, they crossed paths again while training together in a Muay Thai class. Finally, in 2000, Jay and Dexter met again at a seminar taught by Guro Dan Inosanto, where Dexter shared that he had started a school in Sacramento. Jay joined the school in September of 2000 and since then, has been a member of Bahala Na Multi-Style, graduating in 2006. In October 2011, he was promoted to Instructor Guro. Jay has assisted in teaching classes and performing demos in Sacramento and Stockton. He considers himself a lifetime student of the arts and looks forward to sharing it with future generations.
