There have been several illustrious FMA master's and grandmaster's that have all profoundly contributed to the proliferation and to the vital growth of Filipino martial arts in America such as; GGM Florendo Visitacion, GGM Braulio Pedoy, GGM Leo T. Gaje, GGM Remy Presas, GGM Ernesto Presas, GGM Cacoy Canete, GM Dionisio Canete, Guru Dan Inosanto, GM Richard Bustillo, Guru Ted Lucaylucay, GM Fred Bandalan, GM Max Pallen, GM Sonny Umpad, GM Lazada Sr., along with many others. But when it truly comes down to it; only one man stands out alone, and far beyond all of these great monongs as the "Father of Escrima in America", and that man is 'Great Grandmaster Angel O. Cabales'. GGM Angel O. Cabales opened the first official commercial Filipino martial arts academy in the United States of America in 1966, in Stockton, California. Cabales once said "There were many Filipino's in America that did share and teach there knife/stickfighting skills to others; but many of these old monongs kept there combat knowledge secret, and only taught there fighting skills in their backyards, or in the orchard fields where they worked in order to make a living". In some respects! GGM Angel O. Cabales has been given a great deal of credibility for his contributions in the arena of Filipino martial arts; but unlike all of the names mentioned above, to this day! he has yet to grace the covers of any major American martial arts magazine such as 'Inside Kung Fu Magazine' 'Black Belt Magazine' etc. What many of today's FMA practitioners fail to realize, or even to acknowledge; is that if not for GGM Angel O. Cabales' early pioneering efforts in the area of Filipino martial arts, celebrities such as, Professor Leo T. Fong, Guru Dan Inosanto, GM Richard S. Bustillo, GM Mike Inay, GM Dentoy Revillar, GGM/Professor Gilbert Tenio, Professor John Eliab, GGM John Lacosta, GGM Leo Giron, GGM Rene Latosa, GM Jimmy Tacosa, Master Al Concepcion, Guru Ted Lucaylucay, Gura Graciela Casillas, Master J.C. Cabiero, along with several others, could not have flourished as sucessfully as they all have in the world of FMA. When it comes to FMA in the U.SA.; Great Grand Master Angel O. Cabales is the quint essential pinnacle-apex, and the genuine foundation stone of Filipino martial arts in America. It is essential that all of those who have prospered; and all of those that are now prospering in the unique field of FMA give thanks, respect, and unbiased credit to the person who gave the first major push to FMA becoming officially recognized, and taught in America at a time when it was literally not well known. On March 3, 1991, the legendary GGM Angel O. Cabales passed away, and transitioned into the world of the "Spirits". It is Cabales' living spirit that continues to live through all of those who were fortunate enough to have been graced and touched by this great, and historical super human being. GGM Angel O. Cabales was the "Lapu Lapu" of Filipino martial arts in America, and he unselfishly shared his beloved culture and art form with anyone who was willing enough to learn from him no matter what race or country they came from. So never fail to remember on every {March 3rd.} of every sucessive year "The Father of Escrima in America" "Supreme Great Grand Master Angel O. Cabales".
"MABUHAY ANG ANGEL CABALES"
