Last night was my kid's, we had an interesting thing happen, one of my newer students (Age 6 and traing for two months) decide when it was his time to spar that he would throw down his stick and fight with his hands and feet. He had been in a kids karate and boxing class. He chose to do this against a another kid age 5 who had been with me since age 3.5 and in the last year had fought in 2 tournaments. This boys father was there. I told him (the 6 y/o) that he should not do this. His mother was there, she is filipina and she said let him learn his lesson. It was a three minute continous match with padded sticks, helmets and gloves. I said Labon and it was on, the 5 y/o was on 6 y/o quickly with his attck. This was about the worst beat down I have ever seen. The kid would try and throw a kick get blocked then hit. He would throw a punch and get block and hit or get checked and hit. He tried to rush the 5 y/o with the stick and he got knocked down. I had to stop it there. Then the 6 year old want to fight this kids brother who is age 7. he has been training with me for 1.5 years. I said OK if ok with his mom. His mom said he still his running mouth let him learn the hard way. The 7 year old is ussually a quiet and reserved kid but the 6 year old was running his mouth so the 7 year old said fine you want a piece of me come on! Again it was a beat down like the first match. The 6 year would throw down his stick and then try and kick/box the kid with stick. The kid kept getting hit and beat left and right. I stopped the match at 2 minutes and told his mom the 6 year old had heart but needs to listen. She said he is hard-headed but it was good for him to learn a lesson.
