The Secrets of Counterpoint Tactical System

"Every martial art seems to have their secrets. A quick Google search shows that martial arts and secrets go hand-in-hand. After last week’s Counterpoint Tactical System (CTS) class, Ryan and I were talking about what makes a martial artist successful. We talked about the cool stuff that the advanced practitioners can do. As we progress with our training and skills, we become exposed to new areas of training in the…

The Progression of Drills

In Counterpoint Tactical Systems, we have a lot of drills like most FMAs. I came across a video by the Bayani Warrior Group discussing how effective drills are and do they work? Personally, I think the answer is yes and no. Check out the explanation here on my blog: learn the drill, drill the drill, and forget the drill.

Iron Mountain Camp Day 03

The Counterpoint Tactical System's Iron Mountain instructor's camp closed on Sunday September 16th, 2012. The event was full of laughter, learning and some hard hitting. Here's a quote from my blog entry about Day 03 of the CTS Iron Mountain Camp:

As the final part of Josh Ryer’s third degree black belt test, he had to spar staff. All of the black belts who…

Iron Mountain Camp Day 02

Counterpoint Tactical Systems recently had its Instructor's Camp in Butler, TN. In my personal blog, I recount what we learned on day 02. The topics included Panatukan entries with elbows, empty hand versus stick and walking stick striking sets.

Day two started off like day one, with more ranging footwork. Master Whitson led us in pole standing meditation, but it wasn’t as long as we stood during the first day. On this morning, he had us switch to a different…

Filipino Martial Arts Camp in Bulter, Tennessee

Recently, the Counterpoint Tactical Systems family got together in Butler, Tennessee for 2.5 days of training that included empty hands, stick and staff material. Over at my blog, I'm in the process of writing up summaries about each day. Please, note that this is my personal experience of the camp. Here is the beginning of Day 1's entry.

I woke up early on September 13th for the trip to Butler, TN. After eleven hours of travel, including meeting up with Michael Miller…

Hello

Hello, everyone. I practice Counterpoint Tactical Systems and Cacoy Doce Pares in the Saint Louis, MO region. I've joined this network to expand my knowledge of the FMAs and find some cool videos.
