It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that I announce the passing of our Great Grand Master Antonio E. Somera at 5:18am on October 28, 2013. Please pray for the Somera and Flores families as they go through this trying time.
STOCKTON - The memory of a Stockton Filipino community stalwart, who left a legacy in the world of martial arts and a storied military career, will be honored Saturday with a street named after him.
Manthey Road at the cross street of Yettner Road in French Camp has been renamed Leo Giron Drive after the World War II veteran and the founder of Bahala Na Martial Arts International studio in Stockton. Leo Giron Drive is near the site of a new veteran's hospital.

Grand Master Leo Giron learned Escrima as a boy in Pangasinan, Philippines. He sharpened his fighting skills during WWII where he earned a Bronze Star. Long after the war, he began teaching Escrima with the hope that people would have the knowledge and ability to fight in the defense of their lives. ~g.

Back in the day in Leo's basement.... If someone had a question about a technique Leo would get up and show you how to execute it. it would usually leave no doubt in your mind of the effectiveness of the technique. Sometimes after practice some of the senior graduates/instructors who would hang out in the basement after Leo would leave.. would be working on techniques from the class or other things they may have learned elsewhere. Maestro Dexter Labonog was promoted to the rank of Grandmaster by the authority of GGM Isidro P. Javier in a ceremony saturday 7-17-2010 in Sockton California.
