Why Martial Arts is more than just Punching and Kicking.

To many, martial arts may be seen as non conducive to the positive development of a child or an adult. By some, its practice can be viewed as barbaric and counterproductive to a civilized society. As you can probably guess, I disagree.

Martial Arts, under the proper guidance has the ability to teach individuals about physical fitness, goal setting, determination, team work, discipline, leadership, and the value of hard work. While I do not consider myself a scholar by any stretch of the…

introducing myself

Hi, this is David Beck.  I'm a full time performance engineer for Sabre Holdings and a part-time martial artist.  I grew up in Ohio and Iowa.  Started co-op internships with Texas Instruments between terms at Iowa State University, hired on with them after graduation, and have been in the Dallas area ever since.  Married with one daughter.

I started serious martial arts study in 1983, Hapkido with Master Yong Chin Pak.  Also studied Taekwondo with him beginning about 1985.  In those…

More of Wolves, Sheep-dogs and Sheep-In Wolf Territory

The other day I had to go to a rough neighborhood for an appointment at the state one stop/EDD office. That being said I knew I was going into a area where you would say there were many wolves waiting to pray on the weak. there are homeless on the street, poor people digging through the trash, folks panhandling, and crimnal types just kind of lurking around. Instead of wearing office attire that would have set me up for being a target, I dressed like I belonged around there, I wore just the…

Questionable Intent

Here is a link to Guro Glen Abrescy's blog spot, please see Glen's responce to some cleverly edited video "Propaganda". This video was made obviously to attack Leo's former Head Instructor Dexter Labonog and his son Michael Giron. I do not think that when Leo made this video, he intended it to be used in this manner. This is truly "disrespectful" to the memory of a truly honorable…

A story of Wolves, Sheep Dogs and Sheep

Last night I went to charity event, where I had donated for the group hosting the event a hand-made wooden Kampilan sword and two wooden dagas. They are made out of Selang Batu wood. ( I posted a picture of the sword in my picture album)

My host is very involved in her church so many of the people there were regular church-going people.…
