My thoughts and I don’t want this to turn into a fight everyone has their personal opinion on this matter. In my opinion there should only be one grandmaster of a respective style for example when Grandmaster Angel Cabales was alive he was the ONLY grandmaster of Cabales Serrada Escrima. When Grandmaster Leo Giron was…Continue

Grandmaster Rene Latosa of Latosa Escrima. He is a life long martial artist/eskrimador, one of the early students at the legendary Stockton Escrima Academy, beginning his training as a young teenager in 1968 with such FMA legends as the great Angel Cabales, Max Sarmiento, Leo Giron, and Dentoy Revillar. However, Grandmaster Rene Latosa refined his training further under the personal tutelage of his father, Juan Latosa, under whom he learned the finer points of fighting concepts,…Continue

So today is the Summer Solstice and I had private lesson with another one my student David. WE had a good work in a small patch of shade at the park playing with double sticks, wooden Bolos and wooden training knives, and of course knife training. I believe and stress upon my students that every knife training session should always include empty hands verse knife while accessing your own, uses of foot work, using you live hand in conjunction to your knife and understanding the geometry of…Continue

Had great workout this morning with one of my students Thomas, training in self defense against knife attacks. Did both seated and standing methods. Practiced accessing your weapon, when attacked, using defensive counter measures, and controlling of the five lines based upon the fighting geometry. look for an article about this coming soon in the FMA Informative.

It’s been almost six months since I cutover from PMAA (Philippine Martial Arts Academy) to PMAA (Pamanang Mandirigma Arnis Academy). It is time to recognize the progress the students have made. It is usually done via rank promotions but with this new academy, I want to deemphasize rank and emphasize virtue. So I wrote my thoughts down and am posting it here for feedback, both good and bad, and for advice, hopefully all good. (smile) Thank you in advance.
We begin a journey…Continue
