Even when he was very young, Remy would watch his father train the local militia. The training took place in a room made of the nepa leaves. It was high up and Remy was small. He stood on a rock and pulled apart some leaves so he could peek in. He knew children were not allowed to watch, but he was very curious and could not wait. Sometimes he would become so excited at what he would slide off his wobbly rock. Being very resourceful, he soon used many small rocks to steady the big one he…

Well today is my 50th birthday, I am reflecting back over a half century of life. I can not complain about my life being dull or boring. Some days, my life is about maintaining a routine among turmoil of my life, that is my way to just flowing with it like water. I go from being a Fire Captain on a Paramedic Engine to coming home on my days-off and being an involved father of two good boys and teacher and leader of a Filipino Martial Arts style. Somewhere in between I am artisan and writer.…

My younger son and I went to see the "The Grey". It was an interesting movie in its story line, but as younger son pointed out, they were bad cavemen. They did not have even the most basic of concepts for use of improvised weapons. My son and I picked out these things they could have done better. One at the crash scene, looked for any sharp object to use as blade, No one made any stakes that could be used a close quarters weapon. No one looked for anything to use a club. They tried to fight…

I like Sundays as I get up early and can go practice my Filipino Tia-Chi early in the morning. I find the morning is peacefull and I can work my own Sayaw while it is still quite. I can take the time to explore each movement and study it. It is good to back and play hard and it is good to flow through and build your internal energy. I feel that there is not enough of the internal side taught with most FMA styles today. I believe that it is as important as all of the rest. I have heard that…

I have been asked by some folks about my latest promotion bestowed upon me by Grand Master Porferio S. Lanada.
The question asked to me is: "What is Rajah Muda?".
So, in reply to this question, I offer this answer...
Rajah Muda is a rank/title bestowed upon me by Grand Master Porferio S. Lanada of the Arnis Lanada system.
The literal translation of Rajah is "King", and Muda is "Designated Heir".
Within Arnis Lanada, there is a formal ranking structure from the Muslims…

I know that Karate started here in the USA the idea of breaking boards but from Filipino Martial Arts viewpoint why waste a good board! Anyway it seems that everybody else breaks boards so it expect that we as Martial artist break them too. So occasionally I will break boards for demonstrations with my hands. To make it a good show I do it open palm as we fight. this also allows the Chi to flow. So yesterday at my Fire Station they had some scrap pine from a project and they asked to break …
