You see the smiles on the faces of those who were there, those smiles lasted two days. I think many walked away with new insights as well as new friends. A win win situation.

I am thinking that the weapons of moroland shield is a bit much, I would prefer to see a Philippine flag with a couple of weapons crossing it with the myfma above it

2010- 1st Annual Gathering of the Tribes- Philippine Edition

Posted on August 1, 2010 at 9:02am 0 Comments

Some of you may know that TINK and I are going to the Philippines for our overdue honeymoon. What you may not know is I was invited by Guro Michael Tuscano to stay with him and have him be our guide. I have been trying to find out the true history of Kuntaw and it started in his area of the Philippines. I told him I would be open to teach some of his students of what i know. So he decided to have a seminar for his group. I agreed but I…

SIBAT and STAFF work

Posted on May 28, 2009 at 10:00am 0 Comments

Seems like there is a number of stick work videos out there showing everything from disarms to fighting but there is not much available on Staff and Sibat. I have posted several sibat videos on youtube and have searched for others and cannot find any. What I have found has been Japanese oriented and has very little to do with Filipino arts. If anybody has any leads on Filipino staff work- speak up!

2009 Spring Gathering of the tribes

Posted on May 22, 2009 at 7:32am 2 Comments

Well, today is the first day of the gathering. I am loading up the van with my toys and getting ready to join this rag tag group of IMA and FMA misfits for another round of crossing hands, sticks, and personalities. To date this has been the premier event for me. I have been to many seminars and walked away with only basic skills and techniques. This seminar is way different than that. I walk away each time with a deeper understanding of many things. Well worth the time and effort.

Dear Brian, I like to share my point of view when it comes to people and
styles. Stylich arts are definitely good and excellent, as all the others;
what some individuals keep on forgetting that are leaders of arts is in
what is really important. Training or politics? In some cases politics, like
a horse is put in front of a carriage. Go around it Brian, just train with those people, because there is always something good in whatever they are offering.
Look for the good in men, look for the mind set of men and look for
the similarities in training to assure your art straight to your heart. At
this point with all the masters and grandmasters - there is nothing more I have to offer. But my heart and soul! I am glad Mr. Brian I have taught really
good people and each of them, will always do good things with the art I have left them in their laps. Always remember, looks like you had some disappointments in your life - we all do. Always remember, be the skipper of your own soul - use good judgement and evaluate the greater picture.
I will always reply to the positive side of man. It is easy to create animasity,
but it is harder to create long lasting friendship. All arts are good! Concentrate
on your students, concentrate on your objectives in life. Progress your system
in the best as you see fit. Remember I am done with martial arts, I just see things as a father and hope to be able to comfort souls. Always in caring uncle Willem de Thouars.

Dear Brian,
How splendidly are all the South East Asian martial arts comes together. From my point of view and of my experience; I go back deep down to history
lane. The Phillipines and Indonesian islands, belonged to a greater region in the South West Pacific. It includes also the Japanese islands. t
They are all part of the Malay Peninsula. People of any of the regions has a common bondage - they all had migrated from continent to continent. The flavor and
practiced of any sort of martial arts, relates all to Silat. In an appropriate
translation of the word Silat, can be found in the practice of refined skills,
hard training, or the practice of ilmu, internal arts or better explained to
more refined skills through defined practice. When Philipino fighters move and
Indonesian pentjac silat combatants are in moving, are likewise, they are causins.
In the practice of any of the arts, they all relate to the bladed or stick arts.
Your arts you practice is for sure a great art. Thank you sir, uncle de Thouars

I know sir Bill Anderson by reputation but unfortunately I never honor of meeting him personally. I report to Master Jay de Leon of Filipino Fighting Arts USA in CA and IMAFP Commissioner for Northern America knows the great Bill Andersen him personally.

Hopefully I meet him or you in the near future... or if ever you visit Las Vegas give a call and be my guest...
