Request for assistance

I just got an email from a student of mine who is in the Army.. He asked if we knew anyone who is in the Ft. Polk Louisiana area and who teaches the FMA.. This student of mine worked with one of the soldiers in his platoon and introduced him to the FMA. His Battlebuddy is going to be stationed there in a couple of months and he is asking if we know anyone in the local area.. Any assistance is appreciatedSee More

Zach, I train with the right hand primarily, but due to injuries in the past, I learned to work with the left hand by necessity.. Pretty much all of my students were right handed, but from time to time the lefty would pop up and I would have to…

Collapsing the triangles on the human body as applied in Maharlika Kuntao

When an attacker is facing you and launching an attack, the knowledge of how to collapse the major triangles of the body becomes a determining factor on how to provide a quick and destructive way to protect yourself with minimal effort, but with extensive damage. As we know the Filipino martial arts are based on angles of attacks and the ability of how to use the energy of the strike determines how much of the triangle can be used as a defensive way to put the attacker at a distinct…See More

What does your training tell of you?

Posted on May 11, 2009 at 6:30am 0 Comments

It is an article that I wrote for a defensive tactics association and was printed in their e-zine and in a forum in Australia.. It was written in 2007 when I first came back to work in the law enforcement field after a 2 yr sabbatical working stateside..

. Hope to hear constructive and maybe a few destructive comments as a follow up article is planned..

Bill,

Hope all finds you in great spirits!

I finally met up with Midway Kodenkan instructor Guro John Bednarski at Guro Nate Defensor's Illinois 2010 Kapatapunan. As soon as I mentioned your name he knew who I was speaking of.

We will meet up at his school in a month.

Sincerely,
Tommy

Bill,

We chat approximately a week ago on MyFMA.net and at that time you mentioned one or more Escrima/Arnis instructors in Chicago that I did not know about. At the time I thought that it would be easy to just Google for the instructors names / locations but did not find any other than those I already train with. Currently I am training with Sifu Matthew Johnson (Ip Ching Ving Tsun), Guro Mike Eugenio (Garimot), Guro Nate Defensor (Defensor Method) and Keith Jennings.(Michael Janich).

Can you name any other prominent instructors that I might train with, their art, and the locations they may be found at?

Thank you,
Thomas
