Badger...
i checked out the blog... i really agree with most of it.
Our club are mainly comprized of very good stick fighters and our motto that we train by ie "Train For the Truith" Leo pretty much taught us what was real for him so he trained us the same way.
we do train Cadena De Mano & train in alot of the drills & applications but we do know that they are just part of the curriculum we need to develop ourselvse as "complete" martial artist.
we also cross train in BJJ, thai boxing, kick boxing and just plain boxing to round us out.
we know that you need to try evertything out and put in categories such as what is functiona...l and what is for the arts sake which we still will practice to keep out ties to our history.
i remember training with Burton in the 90's and i saw him transform from a lot of the La Costa/lameco type drills to his more simplified "battlefield Kali" i beleive that was from his training with Matt Thorton and his Functional JKD at the time.
i also remember Burton coming to Stockton for a Coalition tournament in the 90s and a lot of the guys had heard of him and were kind of itimidated by his reputation...
but Glenn Abrescy didi not know who he was ..said " He ain't from Stockton" and pretty much took him out.
So like i said i do agree with alot of what u say in the blog.
just to let u know!
