At the time Jorge called his style 'Arnis Lastra - Arnis Lanada', from his family style and his work with Porfirio Lanada.

We had one seminar with Mat Marinas and his students. Pananandata is his style. Mat showed us a very elusive horizontal twirl, which drew a #1 counter, but evaded it and hit on the opposite line. Very slick.

What impressed me about Jorge was his kindness, his gentle humor and the way he treated a fellow Arnis practitioner as a brother the first time he met you. He was like a big kid in a way, excited and eager to show you all his knives and sticks. He had a lot of knowledge to share at any level you were able to absorb. (I was introduced to him by Anthony James in case anyone remembers names from back then).

Jorge opened the 1st Lastra Brotherhood of Arnis school in 1980 located at 9305 Granby St.  Norfolk, Virginia.  It was one of the first FMA schools on the U.S. east coast.
