Part of FMA that is not talked about much is the concept of stick grappling, in order to pull it of one must be able to block or parry then reverse dirrection and then lock or hook and throw. This is serries of simple skills rolled togather to make it happen. My style teaches this and my LEO students use it for controll methods. What are your thoughts?

Honestly It depends, in a life or death situation ,I'm keeping it simple and sticking to striking, in a "stick fight" or match I would use it as an adjunct to my striking. the problem with locking and restraining some one is that that they might get free eventually and once you do lock them what do you do with them once you have them all tied up aside from strike them which is a no-no for LEO's. From a civie P.O.V. for self-defense chokes and strangles are the most practical aspect of stick grappling.-Josh
Josh,
Stick grappling is just a tool in your tool box, not the end all to be all. I have found it usefull in situations were someone wants to grapple on the ground as well. I sparred with well trained grapplers who have limited stick fighting skills tap out very quickly. One of them said to me the stick is worse for a choke as make a tap out or black out situation.
