Information

KOMBOKAN

KOMBOKAN (KOMBAT, BOKSING at TADYAKAN) is a non-competitive reality-based freestyle self-defense fighting concept and system that is purely based on rapid striking. It has developed practical yet fast striking moves that can also progress into grappling, take-downs (dumog) and disarming by using all parts of the body. The KOMBOKAN has developed its own TRIANGULAR-DIAMOND Strike flow which improves hand striking speed, parrying and defence skills. It also uses intricate footwork (V steps), side steps and shuffles as well as pivots, body manipulations, flicks, jerking, body positioning, weight shifting, sinking/collapsing, leg trapping, low-line snap kicks and hand Strikes that are targeted on the limbs, legs, neck parts and groin incorporating all sneaky and dirty tactics (head butts, hair pull and spits) in between. Though the system is focused more on empty hands, it also teaches effective knife and weapons striking techniques without the flashy or structured techniques.

The teaching style of the KOMBOKAN system is totally unstructured to suit individual's capabilities to fight. The student is mainly taught to naturally react and to create moves that are based on given drills, methods and basic techniques depending on his capacity to defend and fight. The art was originally generically named as COJUKA founded and developed by GM Jun Ometer in General Santos City in the early 70s. It was taught to a small elite military group in the Philippines and to a handful of private students. Currently, the art is slowly being re-introduced into the Filipino Martial Arts world renaming it KOMBOKAN.
