Permalink Reply by Jeff "Stickman" Finder on January 30, 2012 at 11:07am As mentioned, Tom Meadows' book "The Filipino Fighting Whip" is one of the few books on FMA whip. Besides his own lifelong interest in the whip, sources include Dan Inosanto, Ted Lucaylucay Jr. and Momoy Canete. Also, check out Anthony Delongis on YouTube. He's the guy who trained Michele Pfeiffer as Catwoman and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, and he's a member of Tom Meadows' Latigo y Daga Association. Anthony is also the guy who faced Jet Li for the sword fight in "Fearless".
Peter "Whipman" Jack from New Zealand designed the Latigo y Daga whip specifically to Tom Meadows' specifications for an FMA whip. Peter Jack is considered one of the foremost whipmakers in the world. Nowadays nylon whips have improved significantly to where they rival all but the best leather (kangaroo is the very best). The advantage of nylon is that it is very durable, not affected by getting wet, and is much less expensive. Two nylon whipmakers I like are 21st Century whips in Florida and Miah Espinoza in Utah. I have whips by all three of these makers.
If you are on Facebook, check out Snapdragons, whip enthusiasts' group. Restita DeJesus, group moderator and FMA/Wushu dynamo, has some great short tutorials on YouTube for different popular whip cracks.
