Something that's always bothered me about the edged weapons portion of our curriculum, is that in an effort to increase interest in the arts, are we posting too many video clips that are falling into the wrong hands. Perhaps we should be limiting the amount of edged weapons info we release on youtube etc. for the protection of the general public. We really should consider the possibility that we may be helping to create better criminals, through this oversight. What are the thoughts of of our members on this subject and what alternative options can we explore to address and or correct it?

these fma networks are funny to me sometimes. The simple answer to the situation is simply not post any knife videos on youtube at all. If you decide to post a knife video just make it a highlight reel with ZERO instruction just clips of you executing techniques at full speed while maintaining control. Videos are cool to promote your group or yourself as an instructor, but when videos are released where folks give in depth explanation of techniques (ie: knife) is wreckless.
I tend to agree.
This has been a problem with karate jujistu, in the late 60s when Japanese did not pass on the info to students and the drop out rate was high, and still is, nowadays competition is all over the place, muay thai, kickboing, MMA, UFC, etc, if the teacher wants to pass on the art it should be to the core members without favoritism or belief or culture. I dont think that Youtube is the place to learn any art really. Teachers must do the leg work in, seminars, travel, meeting, networking, etc is the only way.
I don't think criminals has the discipline or knowledge, to sit down and sort out good from bad teachers online and afterwords try to start teaching them self the skills from just a few min. of video online at Youtube.....
They would at best only know a few "tricks" or some basic, nothing to worry about in my mind, but they are on the other hand able to collect real life knowledge about fighting and skills from their "life style". I mean the fact that many of them might seek out fights at bars or such, and gain knowledge about fighting that way, would worry me more then what we post online.... :)
