Event Description

The Academy is organizing Saturday 06 June 2009 and Sunday 07 June 2009 for the third time in Greece seminars of the Indonesian Art Haka Kuntao Silat DeThouars with the instructor Bill Maniotes from USA.

In this year's Haka Kuntao Silat DeThouars seminar we will examine Hand Patterns (Jurus), Footwork (Lankahs), Knives (Pisau and Kerambit) and Sticks (Tongat).

More specifically...

Hand Patterns (Jurus): fist, palm and elbow
Footwork (Lankahs): knees and foot positions
Knives and Sticks (Pisau, Kerambit and Tongat): proper movement that applies to all weaponry

All this material will come together in the drill of Keepas (waving hands) and Juru Satu (the first form of Kuntao Silat).

Instructor Bill Maniotes is been training with Willem DeThouars and his senior instructor Keith Moffet for over 9 years and been teaching for over 5 years. Also he has trained with Guro Dan Inosanto, Pak Victor DeThouars and Tuhon Tom Kier. He is also Protection Specialist thru Executive Security International and he has worked as a bodyguard for movie companies representatives. The fighting Art Kuntao Silat is originated from Indonesia and is focusing in empty hands fighting and knives, the art is a mixture of the native Penjak Silat knife arts of the Indonesian archipelago with elements of traditional Shaolin and Wudang Kung Fu (as it immigrated to Indonesia). The art came to USA with Willem DeThouars, who has spent a lifetime in these arts. He was born in West Java and has trained in the "old way" since childhood. His father, uncles and brothers Maurice, Paul and Victor DeThouars are also accomplished Silat instructors.

The seminars are open to the public for individuals above 18 years old and no previous experience is required in the art of Silat.
